Hi Everyone! I leave in about a week and cannot believe how
fast the time has flown. It feels like I
just finished finals! I’m trying to think about all the things that I need to
pack, but my brain just isn’t ready for it.
I probably should have been thinking about all of this a little sooner,
but that thought came a little late. That’s
going to be part of my chores this weekend, packing the things that I won’t
need in the next week to see how much room I’ll still have!
I decided to make a blog as a kind of daily (probably
weekly, but whatever) journal while I am studying in Italy. Since maybe not everyone wants to see what
I’m doing in Italy, I figured it would be better than posting it on Facebook. Not to mention, I’ll feel a little more
obligated to post things here than on Facebook.
I wanted somewhere keep all of my experiences while I’m in Arezzo and a
place to post pictures. Also, since
Facebook only shows what it wants to, you’ll be able to keep track of me a
little more reliably.
Family and Friends
can stop reading here, since you might get a little bored!
My name is Michaela Moses.
I am a junior at the University of Oklahoma and I am studying abroad in
Arezzo, Italy for my spring semester. My major is Communication, with a focus
on Organizational Communication. I have
no idea what I want to do after I graduate, although I’m flirting with the idea
of going for a Master’s in Organizational Communication. I want to help people relearn how to
communicate, since it’s kind of a lost art in today’s world. My (possibly) dream job would be an Image and
Brand Consultant. This means that I
would help people both style themselves, their lives, and their communication
in a way that is most effective for their lives. I kind of hope to be hired by an organization
to help their employees with this, but I haven’t exactly figured out all those
pesky details yet.
I have always wanted to travel and OU has this wonderful
program that allows you to study at an OU campus in Italy, Mexico, or Brazil
for the same price as a semester in Norman! I don’t even have to worry about
transferring credits! I will be living
with a wonderful family in Arezzo, Italy.
I am the only student this semester who chose to do a homestay, but I
think that it will help me learn the language and the culture better. Not to mention, this amazing family owns and
runs a pastry shop that is famous for having some of the best pastries! Who
wouldn’t be excited about that?! I plan on trying as many new foods (including
those pastries) as I can while I am abroad, so I might come back as a roly
poly. It’ll be totally worth it though!
Just a little bit about me: I grew up a military brat, so I
am definitely familiar with packing a suitcase (just not for four months in
Italy!). I have an amazing family and two adorable dogs, none of which I could
live without. Up until last week, I was
a lifeguard, swim instructor, and swim coach at the YMCA. I absolutely loved
teaching, especially the little kids and the adults. The little kids could be
so adorable in the water, and the adults were so much fun. Lifeguarding, on the other hand, was not so
much fun. Sitting on your butt for hours
on end watching people talk and float in the water gets old really fast. However, it was a job and I had an amazing boss,
so it was definitely worth the boredom.
